Trauma:
From Surviving
to Thriving
Trauma isn't defined by what happened to us, but rather how the traumatic event affected us mentally, emotionally, and physically. Trauma stays with us in our bodies, so we often feel unsafe, disconnected, and constantly on edge, even years after the event happened. Whether you've experienced abuse or neglect; a sudden loss; toxic relationships; or ongoing life stress, therapy can provide a safe space to make sense of what happened and help rebuild a sense of safety, trust, and control.
Embracing Grief
Grief is a natural part of life, yet it can feel unfamiliar, isolating, and overwhelming. No two people grieve in the same way, so coping with grief on your own or helping your child cope may feel like an impossible task. Whether you or your children are mourning the death of a loved one or pet, adjusting to a significant life change, or carrying the weight of unresolved grief, therapy can provide a space for understanding and healing.
Does this sound familiar?
You're shopping at the grocery store and begin crying in the middle of the chip aisle when you see your spouse's favorite snack.
Your child or teen has been withdrawing from friends and spending time alone.
Your body responds with a racing heart and increased sweating when your manager calls you into the office.
Your child or teen has begun arguing more and is angry most of the time.
Your friends have told you "it's time to move on," but you're not ready.
You avoid people, places, or situations that remind you of a prior negative experience.

Meet Michelle Alexander
Licensed Mental Health Counselor
Hello! I'm Michelle and I am passionate about helping children, teens, and adults rediscover hope, joy, and purpose after they've experienced trauma or a loss. Trauma and grief are overwhelming, mixed-up balls of emotions; I guide you in untangling and understanding those emotions so you feel more at peace and reassured life can continue in a positive direction.
This work is personal to me. 2021 was a year of unrelenting trauma and grief - the traumatic death of my brother; the passing of my grandma and a family friend; the unexpected passing of our family dog; and a tough transition in careers. I understand the waves of emotions that come and go, the "no one else gets what I'm going through" feeling, and the physical sense of not feeling safe in my own body.
I believe that everyone's trauma or grief journey is unique. The care we so readily offer others should also be extended inward; our own trauma and grief deserve to be acknowledged, met with compassion, and embraced as part of our healing journey.
